It’s a theme I’ll go back to again and again because it’s so, so important. Only 4% of women consider themselves beautiful; this is a fact, but not one that is easy to feel. What I do feel is the struggle of each woman to describe her best features, when asked by the sketch artist in this video tasked to draw her portrait sight-unseen. Each sees herself in terms of her worst features–the crow’s feet, the large forehead, the big nose, the thin lips. It’s difficult to watch, because we see what they cannot. And because we know in their seat, we would sound exactly the same.
But then a person who has just met the same woman comes in and describes her again. The results are, truly, beautiful.
